Heavy Goods Vehicles in Micklebring

Like many another rural village, Micklebring has suffered the effects of excessive through-traffic. Unfortunately the main road through the village, Greaves Sike Lane, can be used for access to the Hellaby Industrial Estate from the A1(M) at junction 36, and for access to the Edlington and Warmsworth industrial areas from the M18 at junction 1. Why drivers should go to the trouble to pass through Micklebring when it would be so much easier to keep to the motorway is the subject of much village conjecture. Leaving that puzzle aside, the traffic problem got worse and worse during the seventies and eighties, and the village constantly campaigned for an HGV ban. Ravenfield old village presented a route parallel to Micklebring, so when that village gained a 7.5 tonne weight limit our traffic problems were exacerbated. After years of being told by South Yorkshire C. C. and then by their successor Doncaster M. B. Council that a ban was not necessary or desirable, we were finally given a 7.5 t weight limit
