The Village in 1955The picture below is taken from the Doncaster Chronicle of July 7th 1955. The picture was taken from near the present-day Millennium Viewpoint looking towards the Plough. The cottages on the right were demolished in the 1960's. An article agarding the picture can be read below. The big tree dominating the picture stood in front of The Plough. It survived until 1985, when it became badly diseased. Such a big tree overlooking the road could not simply be felled, so a very brave man lopped branches off it one by one. He can just be seen near the top of the tree. The following three images are the article that accompanied the first picture. |
