Ingredients
8oz Moong dal
2 teaspoons Salt
1 1/4 pt Water
1/2 teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda
1 small onion
1" piece ginger
2 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon Chilli powder
1 teaspoon Haldi
2 teaspoons Dhania
1 teaspoon Garram masala
2 teaspoon Salt
4oz tinned tomato
12 fl oz water
2 oz oil
For Tarka
2 tablespoon ghee
2 teaspoon Chatmasala
Method
- Clean and wash moong dal.
- In pressure cooker add dal, water, salt and sodium bicarbonate. Pressure cook for 1/4
hour.
- Remove from heat and allow the pressure to drop
- In a pan, heat oil, fry onion until golden brown. Add ginger and garlic and cook for 1
minute
- Add all spices and cook for 1/2 min then add tomato. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Mix the above masala to the dal and add water and cook on a low heat for 5 minutes
- Transfer dal into serving dish
- In a small pan or frying pan, heat ghee. When hot add chat masala and mix then pour
straight onto dal.
- Serve hot with rice or chapati
