Meat Dopiaza


1 lb. Cubed lamb or beef
2 lb. Chopped onions
1 tsp. Chopped ginger
1 tsp. chopped garlic
1 tsp. chilli powder
1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. aamchoor
1/2 pint oil
1 pint water
Fresh coriander chopped
2 chopped green chillies


  1. Heat the oil and fry the onions until golden brown. Set aside 1/4 of the onions.
  2. Add all the spices except the aamchoor to the onions and fry for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the green chillies.
  4. Add the meat and fry for 5-6 minutes.
  5. Add the water and cook until the meat is tender. (about 15 minutes in a pressure cooker)
  6. Add the aamchoor and cook for a further 1-2 minutes.
  7. Add the fresh coriander and onions and serve.
